Outdoor boilers today are being outlawed in many areas. If you wan to install a outdoor wood burning boiler in the USA after Jan 2016, it must meet new EPA regulations which few can satisfy. This is not without reason, as many outdoor boilers can not burn cleanly because of how they are designed. A quick trip to our Blog explains many of the reasons why this is so and what the EPA has done to effect a change.

If you want to upgrade your wood burning boiler to a new Solid Fueled Gasification style boiler and are running a forced air furnace to heat your home or shop, the Elite Series Boilers from Pro Fab is your best option. Forced Air heating systems typically are used in most North America homes because they can also use air condition with just one heating and cooling ventilation system. If you have duct work in your home, you have forced air or HVAC. To convert a Forced Air Heating System to Hot Water Heating from a Wood Boiler requires a Water To Air Heat Exchanger in your Plenum. These heat exchangers must run hotter as air is inert, because it is a gas. It is very difficult to heat air verses water, which absorbs BTUs very efficiently. A great example of this is Thermopane windows which can provide up to a R5 Thermal resistance with just one inch of air space in between two panes of glass under vacuum. Therefore, the heat exchanger in a forced air system must run much hotter, 160-190 degrees Fahrenheit than an Indoor Radiant Heating System which runs between 102-106 depending on BTU loss of the structure. As you can only store water to 212 deg Fahrenheit at sea level before it begins to boil, that does not allow you the ability to pull much more than 20-40 degrees of heat out of your water storage system before you're out of useable BTUs out of your water storage. Once you get close to the temperature required to provide enough BTUs into the air flow, you're out of energy. You can't heat your home to 70 degrees when the water temp is 150 degrees and 160 degrees is required. Your home will only heat to 60 and will continue to drop rapidly as the temperature of the water in the storage tank continues to drop. For many homes in North America, the only boilers that can idle and ramp up when a demand is placed for BTUs makes sense. The Elite Boilers make sense in this regard as they can idle and will gasifiy when a call for heat occurs. To understand how this works please read our Blog to learn more.

Empyre Elite 100 uses a process called wood Gasification to produce highly efficient combustion in the furnace's dual burn chambers. Wood in the firebox burns from the bottom up, drying the top layer of wood in the firebox and pushing gases and exhaust into the lower burn chamber. In the lower chamber, temperatures as high as 2000 F burn off all of the gases. The fire brick lining in the Elite Wood Boilers both burn chambers absorbs the heat and maintains burn chamber temperatures for consistent combustion. This high temperature Gasification combustion significantly lowers emissions, prevents creosote buildup and minimizes ash buildup in the Empyre Elite Wood Gasification Furnace/Boiler. After passing through the burn chamber, exhaust air is forced through multiple flues running through the water jacket, heating the water quickly and efficiently.

As far as Wood Burning High Efficient Gasification Boilers are concerned, the Empyre Elites come in two sizes, the Elite 100 and 200 boilers. The Elite 100 is a 100,000 BTU Gasification Boiler and the Elite 200 is a 200,000 Gasification Boiler. The Elite Boilers also come in an Outdoor Wood Burning EPA Approved Furnace/Boiler called the Elite XT100 and the Elite XT200 Wood Gasification boilers.

The Elite Boilers from Pro Fab are unique in that they are one of the only European Style Gasification Wood Burning Boilers that does not require water storage to work, unlike many of the wood Gasification boilers currently on the market which are Batch Burning Gasification Boilers that require water storage to work properly. As these Batch Burners are designed to run wide open and do not idle, the BTUs are stored in the water storage system which as a rule should be about half the square feet of the house in water storage. For example, a 2000 sq ft home would realize a tremendous advantage if it has 1000 gallons of water to store the BTUs in. This is realized in the shoulder seasons such as Spring and Fall when the boiler only needs to run every few days to provide enough stored heat to keep the chill off the structure. This advantage is only realized in Radiant Indoor Heating Systems that run a much lower temperatures.

Wood Gasification Process

Features
  • Water Level Indicator - Monitor furnace water levels at a glance.
  • Temperature Control - Set the furnace to maintain water temperature at your desired level with the user friendly control panel.
  • Smoke Free Loading - Exhaust exit lever activates the revolutionary air curtain and rear exhaust exit to direct exhaust and gases out the chimney when the loading door is open.
  • Exhaust Curtain - Keeps exhaust out of the room when loading; the exhaust curtain swings inward for loading simplicity.
  • Fire Brick Refractory - Stores heat in the firebox for hours, reigniting the wood quickly on a demand for heat.
  • Primary Burn Chamber - Wood in the sealed firebox burns whenever air is introduced and does not smolder between cycles.
  • Loading Door - Extra large size for ease of loading and heavy duty construction for long life.
  • Premium Bat Insulation - Will not oxidize or shrink; keeps heat inside the furnace and the outside safe to touch.
  • Seamless Flues - Transfer heat to the water jacket quickly and efficiently; simple to clean from rear clean out port.
  • Secondary Burn Chamber - Exhaust gases from the firebox are injected with air and burn at up to 2,000F (1093C) to achieve nearly 100% fuel combustion.
  • Durable Construction - Solid steel with removable components for simple installation.
  • Built-in Water Reservoir - Stores heated water to heat your home by a forced air or radiant heating system.
  • Ash Door - Wide insulated door makes ash cleanup from the gasification chamber and flues simple.
  • Ash Tray - Easily dispose of ash with the removable slide out ash tray.
  • Weather-Guard Doors - Front and rear doors protect the unit from the elements.
